Techcombank Drives Internet Banking Adoption with VeriSign® Extended Validation SSL Certificates

Leading bank safeguards against Internet threats to drive customer adoption as Internet banking evolves in Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam - 29th July, 2009 - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced that it has issued more than 4 million Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificates. The total includes certificates issued by VeriSign under all four of its SSL brands: VeriSign®, GeoTrust®, thawte®, and RapidSSL®.

VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced that it has been selected by Techcombank to provide Extended Validation SSL (EV SSL) Certificates for protection against Internet threats as more customers adopt Internet banking in Vietnam. The deal was facilitated by VeriSign's Gold reseller partner Blitz IT Consultants Pte Ltd.

Headquartered in Hanoi, Techcombank launched its Internet banking services in May 2007. Moving to the Internet is in line with recent advances by many Vietnamese banking and financial institutions towards providing modernised Internet banking services to customers in Vietnam, following years of acceptance, technology, infrastructure and budget challenges.

"We are at an important time in the development of Internet banking in Vietnam, and we need to ensure we have the highest levels of security available to encourage adoption, build confidence and safeguard our customers from any potential online threats," said Le Xuan Vu, Deputy General Director - CIO, Techcombank. "VeriSign's EV SSL will provide very important visual assurance to our customers that the Web site is a legitimate site."

VeriSign's EV SSL Certificates will provide immediate visual cues to Techcombank's customers using the latest Web browsers that currently support EV SSL. The address bar turns green, a padlock icon appears next to the address and a new field displays to the right of the URL in the browser. This field contains the name of the organisation that owns the site as well as the security provider that issued the certificate, such as VeriSign.

"Internet banking has started to accelerate in Vietnam, and we expect to see more banks offering online services to customers," said Armando Dacal, Director of Authentication, VeriSign Asia Pacific. "While it is relatively new to this market, the potential threats associated with Internet banking are not. It is crucial that banks get their security right to give customers the confidence to bank online, especially considering how new Internet banking is in Vietnam."

As the most respected and trusted SSL authority on the Web, VeriSign is the EV SSL Certificate provider of choice for more than 10,000 Internet domain names, representing 74 percent of the entire EV SSL Certificate market worldwide1. In fact, more than 95 percent of the Fortune 500 and 96 of the world's 100 largest SSL-using banks secure their sites with SSL Certificates sold by VeriSign2.
